There is no way I am going to be able to complete this blogathon that I declared on myself without much thought. I was on a 1 week leave. At home. Totally rested. Mom's off to kerala to attend the little boy's baptism along with my sister. I and my other sister couldn't make it. But my other sister, the Jellybean's mom is in Pune while mom is away. The peapod and the jellybean are having a great time. Lots of sweet conversations. I wasn't feeling very great and hence took a week off with my sister in town. I was totally rested. Slept mornings and afternoons, only to be woken up for food, tea and some niceties and our general gup-shup. Sisters totally rock and so you should have atleast one ;).
I read Amit Varma's "My Friend Sancho". Its an easy one day read. Since I have been reading him for almost 2 or more years, I think I would just like anything he wrote. While the story is pretty interesting but it kind of ends like many Malayalam movies do, leaving the audience to figure out what could have happened. And like his posts there were a couple of thought worthy lines and scenes.
I started reading "Not without my daughter" and god have I been glued to it. I couldn't put the book down untill after 1am y/d. I do not think I can rest untill I know how she pulled it off. I can only thank God I have been born in India for whatever its flaws are atleast I know I have a right and stand a chance to justice even if it might mean I may have to take to the streets, a signature campaign, a hunger strike, a candle light march, dharna, whatever it takes.
I am really happy the UPA won the elections with good majority. I hope they deliver. I did not have half a hope in any other contesting parties.
Roads are being built-rebuilt all over pune. Specially the one I take. I hope its done in time before the rains. The construction work all around gives a lot of hope that it will adorn a look it really deserves. Suresh Kalmadi has been talking about the metro project for a long time now, its high time to put a proper local transport system in place. The 4-wheelers and 2-wheelers are screwing up the traffic, the roads and the environment. How I wish I had a bus or a metro to take and had 30-mins of reading time to-n-fro. I had a 45 mins bus ride during my last job. It used to be hopelessly crowded but I enjoyed that 45 mins reading even if I was standing on one foot. I hate this driving business, I am just not made for it. Specially city drive.
That is all for now.

Feeling Great

Guess what??? ....No, I havent been to any theme park but I have just got busy with loads of Good work and with a time constraint of exactly 8 hours, courtesy my daughter, I am working dot to dot. Its been more than 2-3 years since I have been swarmed by any good work and God!!! does it feel good?? Yes it does. Its a liberating feeling. I don't know if I can call myself a workaholic, but I did love to love my work and give it my best and of-course any positive feedback just makes me love it & do all the more. And you know what, this is the only way I love to work.
I had almost forgot how it felt to be busy and under pressure. It feels like I had put my career on hold for the past 3 years or so, unintentionally though, slowing down from the fast & mad pace, getting married, having my baby & the after effects. I roamed the buzy buzzing lanes of blogospheres like a zombie from one blog to the other. It has done me good to explore many new blogs, reading their views/opinions/grieves/temperaments/recipes, and the way each go about their daily life but lots of good work is a different high altogether. It lifts my spirits and injects that much required enthusiasm into life. I have done my share of late-nights, I have slogged and I don't deny there have been times I have hated my job, hated it when people accused me of being part of cheap labour that is being exploited but honestly I have enjoyed most part of being there and being in ACTION.....Yes I have enjoyed being that cheap labour that was exploited .. HA!
And just recently while chatting with a colleague about years of experience, I realized I have been working for the past 10 YEARS. I started working in Oct-96 while in my final year of graduation full-time(1pm-9pm)against good advice to stay put, since I felt I was wasting my time and was feeling the urge to do something worthwhile. Once I passed out, I did 2 jobs, a part-time(teaching) and a full-time(coding). So I used to catch the 6:29am local and be back only around 7-8-9pm. It was an exhilarating experience & I had enjoyed every bit of it. It had been rewarding in its own ways and that fueled my efforts further.
Now I realize what I had been missing from life .... Its some Good, satisfying, making a difference kinda work.
Thanks ArtNavy for Alamy. Its damn cool

On this day
22 years back, it was this day, just one of those warm afternoons during Diwali vacations, in Billimora, after a quarrel with my sisters, was waiting on the veranda for dad to arrive for lunch, while arranging & re-arranging in my mind as to what to say and what not to say when mom reports that 3 of us got into a muddy fight and messed up the house, to have the first go at how it was never my fault.
Just then I heard the vijaya super, MZA 9932, turning into our lane and ran to open the gate for him to drive smoothly into the parking. There were no fruits or any comics that day and he seemed to be in a hurry. I was all set to start my story, when he brushed me aside and said switch on the TV and said something about somebody being killed. All ready to do a favour to escape a scolding, ran to switch on the 1975 B&W model, Mandelia. Soon mom was in the living room and dad was telling mom, Indira Gandhi, our Prime Minister was shot dead. More than the news it was the way dad & mom were conversing that I got all engrossed and lost for a while. All the papers, radio & TV were screened for a little more information than the other.
After the initial shock, came the actual shock when we realized what it meant. It was followed by a week of sitar wadan on TV and radio with all entertainment called off. All the favourite programs like chitrahaar, evening serials and the whole of Sunday was doomed.

Be Entertained
So all the while when I have no work and cant pretend anymore with the excel sheets open, I start out with blog-hopping. Sometimes I get lucky and land-up reading a few interesting pieces which would have me go back and dig out more. So I am just about to bestow upon the readers of my blog the direct pleasure of reaching out to a few good blogs(if you havnt already).
There are some things the general blogging-junta do when tagging someone, but for some god damn reason I havent been able to figure it out. Some 7 things or 5 things abt urself kind of an essay you got to write ...... those actually remind me of the dreadful days in 10th & 12th when people come to you with thoes pinky-bluish autograph books and make you write all kinds of crap in there. I know ... I know ...a lot of you would be really sentimental about it and must be still holding onto it for life, but, I for one would always dreaded getting one of those books and then secondly trying to think of what to write.... the worst would be the ones with... your fav color?... ur fav food? .....your dog?..... God!! Made me rave my grey cells everytime.
OK, so leaving that aside, I am going to just give you links to reach out

3)Rashmi Bansal
The interesting thing about this blog is, it usually ends up getting very controversial & the comments generally run into an online debate kind of thing and sometimes gets more interesting than the post itself. You will find the whole IIM/IIPM story here.

I am glad its FRIDAY!!!!!
Has been one hell of a week. For reasons more than i care to list i just have been irritated. Still let me list a few
Off late new comers with the 'I know all' attitude have been getting on my nerves like I cant explain. Dont get me wrong, I am not the 'I dont work with new comers' kinda person (now that line sounds like a line from showbiz) but these kids with their hyper activity kill me. I had a short experience with one such in my earlier office And now I have 2 hypers in my team. you never need to talk bcoz they have discussed problems they think you have, solved them and will also have couple of alternate solutions before you could even open your month. I am so glad I will be on leave in another 2 months time. God grant me my daily doze of patience till then. PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEe.
Secondly, my place, I hate it. Had to move here for a brief period but I hate it here. Its over-crowded, its humid and I need to keep moving for ppl around me to settle in their seats. And I hate this guy sitting to my left. he will just
slant backwards right into my shoulder, he would push his chair backwards hitting mine atleast thrice a day, all I want to do to him is, push him & his chair into a corner under the table and hammer him on his head to drive that little sense required right into his head.
And then there has been this list of people I keep thinking I have to call, no its not you, you are on the next page :),will get there god knows when but you keep calling, incoming doesnt need me to plan and so that will work and we'll talk. I am such a bad planner at times ... and it irritates me
The only saving grace is a few blogs and the regular calls.work is ok. And I am tired.
Blogrolling Moneyplants who started blogging recently but about money & tax and keeps it simple
Finally its a friday evening and I am eagerly waiting for "THE PEOPLE" arriving home today.

Silence
"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter."
"We will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends."
These 2 proverbs probably echoed my thoughts as a Teenager. In school, college, home, church probably till my early twenties. If I had an opinion I had to say it. Debates & elocutions were my favourites. Every issue was taken so personally & I was
adamant at making sure the other person understood and I also lost a debate bcoz I kept repeating myself and stressing the same points, all bcoz I thought no one understood or agreed to my point of view (should have concentrated on the award).
Then I heard these & Observing people react grew on
"Many attempts to communicate are nullified by saying too much."
"No one has a finer command of language than the person who keeps his mouth shut."
And then I still had an opinion but would have my take on mouthing it or not. Even now it matters if the other person understands but then I concentrate & try more on saying as little as possible while conveying the message. The advantage of saying the least is there is very little space for others to mis-understand and mis-interpret.
Couple of scenarios
1) OK, I am discussing an issue, I take a stand on it just for the heck of it(old habbits die hard), the other person has a point and I agree(actually), I realize I am talking bull-shit and dont wanna drag it any longer, I just bcom silent & leave
it to the opposition to make whatever he/she wants of it. But thatz the same reaction when I am really mad and cant say any more but then I would want to trust the person's instincts to play the record thru latter with a cooler head.
2) In the same scenario above after an hour you could also say ...thatz exactly what even I am trying to say and make the opposition look like a complete ass. Thatz again when I go silent and stare wishing I could tie that person's hands and legs to a pole and practise some boxing shots.
3) Next, OK, I just heard something and I totally didnt like the idea but have to play along for whatever reasons and I react, infact I over-react and my voice is rising and I hear a inner-voice "SHUT UP ....... You are over-reacting". And then
I just shut up & get back to a good mood but then I have managed to switch off the other person completely and the person has no clue of my angel called "inner-voice" and calls me a devil & a hypocrite. Maybe should work your way out of the argument and admit upfront then maybe you wouldnt be accused of being a hypocrite
4) I am arguing but inspite of having a valid point the other person's authoratative, repeative arguments at a decibel piercing into my ears and I have no mood to match that bcoz it would almost resemble one of thoes scenes in mahabharat during the war where 2 soilders raise their bow & arrow and keep yapping mantras for an entire episode with stupid 5 advs in between and then shoot only to meet in mid air with some sparkles and disappear with the title song. what a dissappointment!!!
5) Someone is mad at you & you just remain silent for the entire sermon, give no reaction but act dumb and deaf. Helps save a lot of energy and you can meanwhile keep collecting all the ammunition that were hurled your way. Hurl it back latter
periodically. This would have the max effect & satisfaction. You said this and I kept quiet and You said this which means "and your own bullshit interpretation". And surely since it was a sermon, you have lots to mis-understand and twist and turn and
with couple of such twisted statements you can turn the machine Gun and start shooting the long list of what you wantedly mis-understood. This will surely leave the other person spell-bound for sometime bcoz he/she is just trying hard to recollect and wanting to kill themselves for giving you so much ammunition. I have been the victim to many such and learnt my own lessons the hard way.
These are just observations of mine. Use it and know when its being used.
I am a sentimental peace loving person :-).

Our Lifts
What is the probability, of getting into your office lift of 6 levels with 1500 employees at 9:05am and having 7 people enter in it with you at level 0 and none of them seem to budge once you have pressed the button to the 6th level AND AND AND the lift stops no where in between level 0 & 6.
While you do the probability math, let me tell you, it happened for the first time to me in the last 3+ months. And should I consider myself lucky ..... too trivial to count maybe .......but surely a relief. Generally its like the mumbai local train at peak hours, over-crowded and seems to stop at every floor and some get off and some get on board but its only when you are almost about to alight, there seems to be some breathing space in there.

Story tree
...contd from S M I T H A
He thought it would be an ordinary journey. Standing behind the pillar he watched the train snort arrogantly into the station. With each snort he was reminded of his grandfather's words "You will fail in the city and return penniless"; with every heavenward whistle, he heard his cousin, "Don't worry. Come here and I will get you a job at the construction site." Now he had a 34-hour journey to prove one of them wrong, and he expected the excitement at the end of the journey. He looked at his ticket once again: compartment S9 berth 23.
He would preserve this ticket. When he would succeed, he would frame and hang it for all to see, as a reminder of the fact that greatness had humble origins, of the day when he set out to seize his destiny. His lips quivered with emotion as he carefully counted the money in his wallet, yet again. Four crisp hundreds and two crumpled fifties. At seventeen, it seemed like a fortune to him. He would carefully plan his expenses. He felt as energetic as the strong breeze that hit his face. He stumbled backward, as the wallet slipped from his hands.
Turag watched it fall, with the fingers of both his hands curled—one gripping the steel bar and the other gripping nothing but air. The wallet settled, the second time it touched the greased stones. It was diminishing in size and moving away from him like an open-mouthed balloon propelled by the gushing air. He knew, well enough, the events that would follow if he pulls the stop-chain. In fact it was a stop-chain that brought a wind of change in his life. Getting off from the thought-train that the stop-chain had evoked, he rushed towards it, with uncurled fingers.
"Don't do that." said a voice from behind him. The command in the voice, more than his curiosity, made him stop and turn around. The first thing he noticed was her eyes which also held the finality her voice seemed to convey. He was still staring deep into the depths of her beautiful eyes when he realized that he had been stopped. He closed his eyes for a second, shook his head to clear out the image -as if wiping the slate clean- and reopened them.
"I drop my wallet.", he said.
"I saw" Radha replied. Turag stared at her confused.
Before he could turn, ignoring Radha to pull the bar, Radha said "Please bhaisaab, my daughter is very ill. This train will reach Aurangabad in 2 hours. If you pull that chain, I might get really very late". Turang thought of anu, his niece, how worried they were when she fell ill last month.
Turang stood there feeling totally devastated and lost for life. He was being kind but at what cost he wondered.
Radha thrusted few crisp notes into his hands after thanking him profusely before alighting the train.
And I pass the baton to Risha, Soumya and Kapil.

Sue me for 1 crore pls!!! Won't that be cool
Just imagine, someone sues me for A crore for something I published on my blog and I sue him for 2 crores for my mental stress & time waste and (of-course!!!) I win What the hell will I do with all that money!!! Holiday in Italy & Spain for a month, Honda Accord .... Dont even get me going :)(starry eyes!!!) that needs to be a different blog.
OK cut the crap, herez the story, I Stumbled upon Gaurav Sabnis's blog this morning and it turned out to be a very very interesting read. Not only because he was threatened to be sued for a huge 1.25 crore but also the happening thereafter. I have heard this name before but I am hearing this story for the first time so not sure where. I kept blog hopping from there on and seems like I joined in the heated-bandwagon a little late but still worth it I would say.
Talk about Freedom of speech. Talk about right to Information. Talk about your right to put up anything on your blog. And talk about some scared chicks who send out legal notices to bloggers for their views.
Its NOT about belonging to IIM or IIPM. Threatening someone for their views, questions the very foundation of democracy & your basic rights as a citizen of this country. Defamation, yes you surely can but first you need to prove it. Also, getting to Gaurav via his employer, according to me is a really cheap game.
If someone questions your credibility, prove/clarify it or just "SHUT UP". The students of IIPM surely maybe feeling the pinch becoz of the horrendous fees they pay or ofcourse there is the loyalty factor but their reaction to burn laptops in no way aligns with any management principles I have heard/learnt so far, working in the industry for the past 8 years, and of reading books, magz & articles published. This aligns more with hooliganism practises.
I think Gaurav showed some amazing character by resigning from IBM to stand by what he believes. I am not sure I will do that but nevertheless thatz my role model. Kuddos Gaurav!!!

HCIA RNPAG PC!YK!
No, its not the font nor your locale but just a cryptic title :).
Cryptography is an interesting subject. I remember my initial encounter with them in competitive exams.
if cat is dbu then what is dog
Though 90% of the time you are thinking "I give a damn what it is" you take your time to figure out whatz done in the first sample, whether its substituting the next alphabet or the previous or does a -> z or is it a series.
Though I used to enjoy deciphering these while at home over tea ..... I remember appearing for entrance exams & job interviews and cursing them while sweating profusely to decipher these kinds. Before the joy of decoding one could settle in you have a more complex one staring at you in the face and the time clock ticking by.
I think why people loved “Da Vinci Code” by Dan Brown is because it was full of these code-decoding Techniques. How many actually know about the life of Jesus & Mary of Magdelene and the Holy Grail and how many actually care if Jesus was married or not. More than the controversy it drew in about the life of Jesus and the Catholic Church people merely enjoyed Robert Langdon & Sophie Neveu decode the clues and the explanation of the logic behind the clues.
So herez an another interesting encryption methodology I came across, God alone knows how I landed browsing through this.
In anycase this is Shannon’s Principle of Confusion & Difusion,
In a classical transposition cipher the plaintext is written on a piece of paper in horizontal rows of c characters each. The number of columns c is part of the secret key. After the whole text has been written down in this fashion, the ciphertext is read out vertically column after column. In simpler versions this is done in increasing column order, but in a generalized method the columns could be chosen in any order (known of course by the authorized receiver) thereby extending the number of possible keys.
Example:
MESSAGE FROM MARY STUART KILL THE QUEEN
M E S S A G E F R
O M M A R Y S T U
A R T K I L L T H
E Q U E E N
MOAEE MRQSM TUSAK EARIE GYLNE SLFTT RUH
Isnt that smart :). I loved it. So the blog & now encrypt the Title ;) (The secret key is 5)

Surprise Test!!
Those words werent very funny quiet a few years back but now I am calling the shots so dont worry. Take this test and let me know the results. I have put up mine :) (This is the result of hours of useless browsing hithher-thither with no direction)
You Are 40% Boyish and 60% Girlish |
You are pretty evenly split down the middle - a total eunuch. Okay, kidding about the eunuch part. But you do get along with both sexes. You reject traditional gender roles. However, you don't actively fight them. You're just you. You don't try to be what people expect you to be. |

One Morning......
She got up one morning and looked at the watch kept on the side table .... it said 6:28am ..... couldn’t explain the feeling of wow ...2 mins more to go ...she snuggled into her sheets for the 2 mins to go on forever ....finally got up and dragged herself to the washroom .... the daily routine of brush-WatchUrselfInTheMirror-Spit-WatchUrselfAgain-Brush-MirrorAgain-Garggle-LookIntoTheMirror-Wash-MirrorAgain happened probably the exact same way....everyday.....with probably the same timing for each activity. Today while looking at the mirror in the 3rd go she could see 2 ugly heads too in it.... oh no ... not today …. not again. Done everything to keep them away. Shez coped with these mean creatures enough in the past and God Please not again she thought. The day seemed all ruined already. The whole day the 2 nagged her whatever she did, even while talking to the guy at the bus-stop, even when talking to her boss, even while she was gossiping with her friends. And even if she drowned herself in work and tried to put the 2 past her, there would be a passer-by or a casual remark from a friend who would enquire about the two. In the past she has seeked advice from close friends and cousins and all of them who knew the mean creatures, advised her to just leave them alone and they would stop nagging you. Inspite of several reminders from mom ..."don’t harm them" ...She used to get this itchy feeling to just do that. Even if she decided to leave them alone, suddenly she felt people are looking at them instead of her while talking to her. Some of them even gave her some free-good-for-nothing advices as to how to get rid of them.... hardly did they know..shez tried it all .... the worst is even if she manages to hurt them ....finally she is the one who is in pain even after they disappear.
Finally she read a solution to this in her favourite Aunty ICareADamn's column. That night she planned it all well. Had to do it. Before crawling to bed that day she did the needful and prayed they would disappear when she wakes up tomorrow.
The next day, a look into the mirror and she was yelling at Aunty ICareADamn. The pimples did disappear, were burnt by the Colgate she had applied but it also burnt her skin leaving even more eye-catching marks and way open to all those sympathetic looks, horrifying looks ...all kinds of them accompanied by the variations of the question "hey, what happened to your face?"

Star Signs - Crazy Signs - Crazy ME
One of the Silly question I ask many people I meet, is their star sign. At times when it might get too obvious derive it from the date and month. Now again, just bcoz I asked your birthdate doesnt mean I am gonna wish you bcoz firstly the intent is just to relate you to someone in the zodiac sense and not surprise u and secondly I am an insensitive geminian and the last but not the least, I just dont have a good memory with numbers. Discussions on star signs have been a major topic in school & college and need not mention the God of all such books "Linda Goodman's Zodiac Signs". Wish we had a subject on this rather than the scary "Characteristics of Benzoyl peroxide" or "What would be the reaction when H2SO4 is poured into MethylCarbonate". I can imagine writing papers after papers quoting examples of a few frds like the teary cribbing saggi, sensitive cancerian, egoistic geminian and the dreamy picean.
I dont make or loose friends bcoz of what Madam Linda has to say about compatibility but surely I am on guard when I meet a Capricon or a Arien but guess what ...My house is full of Ariens & I married a Capri .... I asked the question too late :) maybe linda meant Capri girls. Every time I used to sit & make such stupid studies Moh used to say "But I am a Capri" :) ... ok you are an exception.
I always think I am the best compatible with piceans bcoz all my long lasting friends right from school are piceans. But then I also have scorpions and saggis and cancerians & geminians & ....... so if i see myself getting comfortable & easy going & relaxing with someone then suddenly the stupid question has to be asked...... I keep telling myself no ... no .... and then pop .... hey whatz ur star sign :).
There are times I meet ppl who arent as great as Linda describes them and would dissappoint me big time and would make me wanna sue Linda for having me read all those wrong sagas about them.
Its so silly I know I got to stop it but will I?

Wish I were a Guy?
Four of our cousins(mine and Pradeep's) are due in july/august. Today my sister-in-law delivered a healthy baby girl. Here comes the first little one. Kudos!!! Have been hearing a lot of discussion of maybe a girl .... maybe a boy bcoz of reasons varying from the weather, the month, the food, the books u read, the way the mother behaves, the to-be-father's temperament, the grand parents, the pattern and the postpone or prepone of dates and ofcourse the stars(and moons). All kind of theories except the theory of chromosomes. So maybe its just one of these factors that I was born a girl else would have been a boy uh!!! God!!
Do I wish I were a guy?
Just 2 times in my lifetime have I really wished I were a guy.
Back in school when dad used to send me to the tyre repair shop with the tyre hanging off my ladies cycle depriving me of all the lady like grace, I would like to believe I was carrying, wearing my jeans skirts and collored tops, passing right in front of the bunglow where stayed the rarely-seen-good-looking guy. As my rotten luck would have it, the rarely-seen-good-looking guy would be walking our part of the earth that day or even worse he would be chating with the miss beauty while I will be cursing Dad's vijaya super mza 9932 & wishing to vanish into thin air.
Second is when late night programs started popping up. God!!! 9:30 was my deadline. It was initially 9 but I stretched it to 9:30 bcoz 9:30, 9:45 all so much still sound like 9 isnt it??. (No Hubby dear, 12am doesnt sound like anything ...except for trouble) Have managed a couple of 10's and 11's but surely not without those stern looks and warnings that could send a chill down my pine. The worst is.....when fearing dad's reaction mom would just slap me on entry so that dad would mellow down and wouldnt flood his anger on me. but then MOM(what a strategy), maybe dad would never have hit.MAYBE!!!!
Otherwise why would I have such a silly wish :)
